Why Cáceres?

Cáceres, the city of the three cultures

The history of Cáceres goes way back in time. It is a city that has been nourished by all the cultures that have passed through it. You can find prehistoric sites such as "Las Cuevas de Maltravieso", Roman roads, Arab and medieval buildings. That is why it is called the city of the three cultures, because walking through its old town you can see the vestiges of Medieval, Arab and Roman cultures. But that's not all, Cáceres is also a modern city, with a great cultural offer and a great gastronomic variety.

A medieval market is held every November, and all the city is filled with historic ambience. In May, you can enjoy the WOMAD festival, a multicultural festival that brings together artists from all over the world. And 23rd April San Jorge is celebrated, with a great medieval atmosphere, a theatre show in the Plaza Mayor. At the end of the night, there is a big fight between the Moors and the Christians, and finally San Jorge appears on his white horse, killing a gigantic dragon by setting it on fire. It is a city that has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and also the Spanish Gastronomy Capital.
